This week’s orienteering November 18-24
A small turnout from 3ROC at Fingal’s Leinster Autumn Series league at Castletown House last Sunday saw Gerry Cunningham taking 3rd place on the Brown course, Mary O’Connell 2nd on the Green and locals Caoimhe and Oisín May 1st and 2nd on the Yellow course. Castletown is at the easy end of the spectrum of areas used for Leinster League events (Carlingford is very much at the other end!) so maybe we needed something more challenging than a gallop around the Liffeyside parkland too attract us?
This Sunday (24th) has the next Leinster Autumn Series event, run by Ajax at Glendoo Ridge East above Glencree on the Dublin/Wicklow border. This is an open mountain area with some forest and with lots of turf banks so parts of the area are like street orienteering without the buildings: first bank left then second right. Access is from the Featherbed road 1 km north of the junction at the head of Glencree: see details here.
Also on this weekend are Lagan Valley’s event at Parkanaur near Dungannon on Saturday (see here) and Blarney Castle, Cork on Sunday.
Club physical training continues at 6.30 pm at Belfield on Monday and Thursday.
Watch out for orienteers running in the Intervarsity Road Relays at Maynooth on Sunday: UCD, UCC and TCD will field teams including some familiar names.
