This week’s orienteering: March 24-30

For details of our Leinster Spring Cup event at Pine Forest, Rockbrook, on Sunday 30th, click here.

The weekly news: The new DVI (Deaf Village Ireland) map in Cabra was launched on Saturday and the Junior Squad included it in some of their training weeknd after their fitness test/time trial in the Phoenix Park.

Sunday’s event run by Ajax on the Bull Island was a great day’s orienteering: a super area and great weather combined with good courses meant that everyone went home happy.  Ger Butler finished 6th on Brown, Clodagh Moran, Mary O’Connell, Aidan McCullough and Eoin Riordan  1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th on Light Green. Great, too, to see some of the stalwarts out: Seán Rothery (M85),  Con Carroll (M80) and Vera Murtagh (W75) all ran.

Gerry Cunningham was one of the ones with tired legs on Sunday, after the Wicklow Way trail race on Saturday in cold and windy conditions with heavy wintry showers. Other orienteers were out in force, running buth the 25 and 50 km races.

The same Gerry is organising the Pine Forest event this Sunday and he needs helpers: check the e-mail that went out to all members with details.

If you want to head North on Saturday, LVO have an NI Series event at Slievenagore in the Mournes, starting at the wonderful Silent Valley reservoir near Kilkeel. See details here.

Finally,  a reminder that if you bring your Pine Forest O-map to the Tibradden  Zipit high wire course during April, you get 10% off, or 20% off for a group of 10 or more. See details here.

See you all on Sunday! if it’s a clear day, bring your binoculars to see Carlingford, Slieve Gullion and the Mournes from the event car park.
