3ROC News 19th October 2015
After a run around the Curragh at the weekend, it’s more open ground orienteering next weekend although the terrain changes to sand dunes for the Northern Ireland Championships and Junior Home International on Saturday, with more of the same on Sunday.
On Saturday the Irish Juniors (M/W14, 16 and 18) take on the English, Scottish and Welsh juniors in the Individual JHI, with the Relay on Sunday. Both events are at Magilligan, a complex area of sand dunes near Portstewart in Co. Derry. After the JHI’s it’s the Northern Ireland Championships for all the other age classes.
3ROC have three runners on the Irish team: W16 Clodagh Moran, M16 Eoin Riordan and M14 Aidan McCullough: good luck to you all!
Sunday’s Irish Middle Distance Championships on the same area will use a larger scale 1:7500 map and will follow the JHI Relays.
Will the Juniors salvage Irish pride by beating Wales? The Welsh beat both the Senior and Veteran teams in the first two Home Internationals of the year in September and at the start of October, so it’s up to the Juniors now!
You might have seen on the 3ROC Facebook page that we are ordering more club O-tops, so contact us if you’d like one. Adults tops are €20, kids’ €10: these prices are subsidised by the club. You can contact us via the link on the right of this page.
Fitness training continues on Monday and Thursday evenings at Belfield.
Next local orienteering is Ajax’s Leinster League event at the Featherbeds (between the Hellfire Club and Glencree) on 1st November: open ground with lots of turf cuttings.
See you there!
