MTBO in September

We plan to run a mountain bike orienteering event on Carrick Mountain near Glenealy, Co. Wicklow, on Saturday 15th September.

This will be the second in a series of MTBO events, with CNOC running one on September 1st (probably on the Curragh) and Setanta on September 22nd (Probably in Djouce Woods).

The previous series of MTBO events have featured two courses: all you need is a mountain bike, a helmet, some kind of map-holder (easy to make), and off you go!

Carrick hasn’t been used for orienteering for some years but the 1:15000 scale map means that long courses can be planned without reusing the same parts of the area again.  Carrick was first used for the 1986 Leinster Championships when we celebrated the club’s 10th anniversary and it was one of the biggest events ever run in Ireiand.
