3ROC News 22nd November 2016
A lovely day last Sunday for a run around Massey’s Estate and Hellfire Woods, courtesy of Setanta. Lots of cubs and beginners out, which is great to see. Although not a serious competition, there were some good 3ROC runs too, with Eoin McCullough 4th on the Long course, Eoin Riordan (first Junior) 7th and Clíona McCullough 11th (First lady). Clodagh Moran outran her mother, Mary O’Connell, finishing first and second on the Medium course, with our German visitor, Clara Kilper, 7th. The Junior training session beforehand seems to have gone well, with positive reaction from Mike Long, the IOA Junior Affairs officer.
We have to travel further afield for our orienteering fix next Sunday (November 27th), to Rossmore Forest Park outside Monaghan, where Fingal are running a Leinster League event (Yes, we know that Monaghan isn’t in Leinster, but Fingal are!). The forest was used for a Leinster Championships a few years ago and it’s actually pretty nice, with some lakes and ruins, earth banks, paths and drumlins. You can see the 2009 Leinster Champs map, courses and routes here. If it sounds a long way, it’s about 90 minutes from the M50 so it’s doable. There’s no detailed information yet but have a look here closer to the event, or look at the IOA Forum here.
Looking further ahead, there’s a sprint event at Belfield on Saturday 3rd December, which is always good fun – try it if you haven’t already – followed by a Leinster League event at the Curragh on Sunday 4th, combined with the Intervarsities (although the 2016 Intervarsities were only in April! – maybe it’s because the next Leinster League event is in Ulster?).
And don’t forget the 3ROC 40th Anniversary celebration on Sunday 11th December – everyone should have received an invitation already. If not, contact us here.
