AGM Reminder: A final reminder that the 44th 3ROC Annual General Meeting is on Friday 5th April at the Dropping Well in Milltown at 7.30 pm or shortly thereafter. In addition to the usual AGM reports and elections we’ll be presenting the club grants for our international athletes for 2018, we’ll have a selection of club orienteering gear for you to try or to buy (O-suits, running jackets, O-legs, club hats, fleeces and the brand new 3ROC buffs). We’ll also have some finger-food after the meeting and the organisers of our Pine Forest event on March 14th, Kevin and Una, will be taking offers of help from all the willing volunteers. John McC will also be taking names for Irish Championships relay teams – your last chance!

Stranahely, 1983

Leinster Championships: On Sunday we have the first major event of the year, the Leinster Championships at Stranahely in the Glen of Imaal. It’s mostly a pre-entry event but there are two courses available for entry on the day if you’d still like a run. See the start lists, course lengths and other details here. The Irish Juniors are running a refreshment tent there to raise money for the Junior Squad, so please support it. Ruth Lynam is the course planner so expect some good courses! And if the Leinster Champs isn’t enough for you, LVO have an NI Series league event at Meelmore in the Mournes on Saturday as a warm-up …

Interesting fact from Tripmondo on the Internet: “Stranahely in Wicklow (Leinster) is a city in Ireland about 2,712 mi (or 4,364 km) west of Qeshlaq, the country’s capital city.”. Not many people know that! (Qeshlaq is a small village in Iran, apparently. And they’re talking about making geography an optional subject in schools?)

Next event: The next 3ROC event is our Leinster League at the Pine Forest on Sunday 14th April, your last chance for some orienteering before the JK in England at Easter. Colm Moran (who is away orienteering in Norway this weekend) is the planner and Trina Cleary is Controller. Colm has planned a middle-distance event without much climb, so courses will be a bit shorter than usual: full details in next week’s 3ROC News. Kevin O’Kelly is organising and needs volunteers …

Running training is back in Belfield on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Membership: In the meantime, you can join 3ROC or renew your membership online here. Everyone is welcome! Club members get discounted entry fees at most events, it’s easier to arrange transport to events if you don’t have your own, and you learn new skills, make friends and get fit! What’s not to like?

The first of the Armagh urban events was in Portadown last Sunday and looks like it was a lot of fun – see the final few controls of the Open course on the left. You can see the map and all the courses on Routegadget here. Nobody travelled up from the south, but maybe for the next one on May 19th?
