Mountain Bike Orienteering
John McCullough has planned two courses for the 3ROC MTBO event at Carrick Mountain, Glenealy, on Saturday September 15th. The courses will be about 16 km and 10 km by the optimum route, not by straight lines. Setanta’s first MTBO event last Saturday at Djouce was a real test of stamina, orienteering and cycling. Planner Dave Weston included quite a lot of difficult single-track sections which may have gone down well with the MTB’ers but was probably a bit much for the orienteers; on the other hand the map-reading may have been too much for the MTB’ers – you can’t please everyone. The 9.8 km course was won by CNOC’s Conor Short in 105 minutes – the actual distance was about 16 km. John was 5th in 123 minutes.
Is anyone able to help at Carrick, doing registration etc on the day or taking in controls afterwards? John will be putting out the controls on the day before since there is no access to the forest before 11.00 on Saturday because of deer hunting …
