3ROC News 11th March 2015
A lovely area at Oughaval – Oakwood in Stradbally, Co. Laois for CNOC’s Leinster League event last Sunday, with 3ROC dominating the Green course – a win for Eoin McCullough, Ger Butler 2nd and John McCullough 4th. Aidan McCullough finished 3rd on Light Green and Cuan Riordan 3rd on Orange, with his brother, M16 Eoin, finishing strongly in 5th place on the Blue course, ahead of veteran Pat Healy who mapped the area. The same Eoin also had a good run at last Wednesday’s Leinster Schools event at Carrigolligan, finishing a clear winner in the 2nd/3rd Year Boys’ race.
Nice deciduous forest with rock features, like nearby Dysart which was used for last year’s Leinster Championships, made the short journey well worthwhile: less than an hour door to door from Dublin.
This Sunday we have Setanta’s local event at Hellfire Woods, Rathfarnham: three courses (2.1, 3.8 and 5.8 km) with the proceeds of the event going to Our Lady’s Hospice in memory of Setanta’s Brian Power who died recently. See event details here.
If you’re travelling North, QUBOC are running an event at Kilbroney, Rostrevor, on Saturday (details here) and there’s a Sprint weekend the following weekend in Portrush and Portstewart, Co. Derry- see here.
Closer to home there’s the Junior time trial in the Phoenix Park on Saturday, followed by training in the Park and in Ashtown Castle. If you’re doing that you won’t be able to do the St Patrick’s Festival Treasure Hunt on Saturday (starts 10-1.00 at Trinity College) – urban orienteering with a twist, though I’d say they need a Controller to check things out if they think that TCD is in Dublin 1! See details here.
