3ROC News 12th October 2015
Well done everyone involved in yesterday’s Leinster League event at Ballyedmonduff– where we turned the Three Rock Mountain map upside down and started everyone in the lovely runnable forest in the south east of the area for the first time. Planner Ger Butler put on some great courses with some long legs and lots of route choice (have a look at the runners’ routes on Routegadget here). The weather was kind, even if it was hazy and we couldn’t see Wales or the Cooley Mountains.
Well done also to 3ROC’s Pat Flanagan (1st Light Green) and Cuan Riordan (3rd), to Nadya Dunne (1st on the Red “runners'” course) and Mary O’Connell (4th on the Green course).
What did surprise us was the number of experienced orienteers who failed to download after their courses, causing concern to the organisers as to their safety. If this is you, you are down as DNF in the results.
We had an international flavour with runners from the UK, Sweden, Norway, Turkey and Germany taking part. Results are here.
Next Sunday (October 18th) CNOC are running a local event with three courses on the Curragh, Co. Kildare: details at www.orienteering.ie. The following weekend we have the Junior Home International and Northern Ireland Championships on the dunes at Benone, Co. Derry, with the Irish Middle-Distance Championships on the Sunday. There are three 3ROC runners on the Irish team: Clodagh Moran (16, Eoin Riordan M16 and Aidan McCullough M14. Good luck to you all!
Entries for the NIOC weekend close on Wednesday 14th October: details here.
See you in the forest!
