3ROC News 28th April 2015
All set for the Irish Championships at the weekend? We have more than 20 running from the club and six relay teams. The weekend kicks off with the Sprint Championships on a new urban map in Lisburn; then the Long Distance on Saturday at Slieve Croob (previously used for the 1986 Irish Championships on the weekend of the Chernobyl power plant explosion, and for JK2011), with the Relay at Hillsborough Forest on Sunday and two non-Championship events on Monday – a Sprint Relay (along the lines of the one at last year’s World Championships in Italy) and an urban race in Lisburn.
The Sprint on Friday is a World Ranking Event, though the number of international competitors is small, giving the locals a chance to pick up some valuable World Ranking points.
We have some club involvement in the Sprint – the Controller, Pat Flanagan, and the IOA Advisers, Ronan and Julie Cleary, are 3Rock members.
