Orienteering News – 24th February 2015
We’re running a local introductory orienteering event at St Catherine’s Park, Lucan this Sunday – all the details are here. If you can help at the event, please e-mail John at 3rockoc@gmail.com and volunteer! We’re expecting lots of beginners so every help will be welcome.
Last Saturday night’s final “Dublin by Night” event at Deerpark, Mount Merrion, saw UCDO shoehorn two lovely courses into a very small area: was there even a single tree that didn’t have a control? A cold, dry night with a bewitching moon, saw 3ROC’s Eoin McCullough demolish the others on the short course, winning by over 6 minutes, while next day at Fingal’s Leinster League event on the dunes at Cahore, 3ROC’s Áine Uí Shúilleabháin and Michael Butler took 1 and 2 on Light Green, Cuan Riordan was 1st on Orange, and Thomas Keegan 1st on Red (… actually the only runner on the course!). Conditions on the day weren’t as bad as the forecast had suggested, so well done all who travelled.
As well as the St Catherine’s Park event this weekend, there’s an Irish Junior Squad training weekend with sprint races at the University of Limerick on Saturday and training near Ennis on Sunday. Some of our very promising Juniors (Cuan, Eoin, Clodagh, Kevin, Aidan) will be taking part. The famous Phoenix Park Fitness Test is coming up on March 14th so keep training, guys!
