Summer Orienteering
With the Irish Championships finished, it’s time for some summer orienteering: the Tuesday evening events start on May 19th at Donadea and continue, with a couple of breaks, until August; then the Fingal local Sunday events start. You can see details of these events on the IOA web site here.
There are more events to go on the fixtures list, but the ones on at the moment (May 17th) include Donadea, the Curragh, an urban race in Naas on June 9th, and events at Hollywood, Cabinteely Park, Tymon Park and our own events in the Phoenix Park. We’ll obviously need some helpers for these, so don’t be shy – come and volunteer!
Before most of these we have the 3-day Shamrock O-Ringen in West Cork on the June Bank Holiday weekend (see details here).
At the Elite level we hope to have some 3ROC runners at the World Championships in Scotland in August, and entries for the Scottish 6-Day, running in parallel to WOC, are still open: see here. We already have one runner gearing up for the Junior World Championships in Norway, in July: W20 Clíona McCullough.
On the home front we have just announced the 2016 Leinster Championships which we will be running at Carrick Mountain, Glenealy, Co. Wicklow on April 17th next, and the area has been declared out of bounds to orienteers until then. 2016 will mark the 40th anniversary of 3ROC (and of GEN and SET who all formed on the dissolution of the original “Irish Orienteers” club in 1976) and it will be 30 years since we last ran a Leinster Championships at Carrick, when we had about 550 runners: where have they all gone?
We have a stock of 3ROC O-tops at the subsidised price of €20 for adults and €10 for juniors: contact Lindie for details. We also have some O-bottoms at €20.
Anyway, the 3ROC web site won’t be updated on a weekly basis for a while over the summer, so keep an eye on our facebook and twitter pages for the latest news.
In the meantime, have a great O-summer from 3ROC!
