This week’s orienteering – May 14-19
Tuesday 14th sees the first CNOC evening event, starting at Lumville House on the edge of the Curragh, near Newbridge, from 6 to 7.30 pm. The format this year has changed to a “scatter” event where you visit a set number of controls in any order. Details are on the CNOC web site here.
The remaining Tuesday evening events are at Donadea, Monasterevan, Curragh and Hollywood.
Wednesday 15th has a mountain race from Crone to the top of Djouce at 7.30. See the IMRA web site here for details of all the races. There’s a race most Wednesday evenings over the summer and may of the areas will be familiar to orienteers. 3ROC have a team in the Wicklow Way Relay, running 127 km from Marlay Park to Clonegal, Co. Carlow.
Saturday 18th: you can do the 5 km free “Park Run” in Marlay Park at 09.30. Details here.
Sunday 19th sees Fingal running a relay at Newbridge House, Donabate, with teams of three runners (made up any way you like). The legs are 5 km long and fairly easy navigation. Mass start for first leg runners at 11.30; €15 per team. This event will help Fingal deal with the Seniopr Home International Relays at Carnawaddy, near Carlingford, at the end of September. We are running the SHI Individual on Carlingford Mountain the next day (September 29th). Why not go along and run the fun relay on Sunday next? See the IOA Forum for details here . There’ll be an entry on the day normal course al well. It’s an interesting place to visit: read about Newbridge House and Farm here.
Juniors: you can run the Junior Squad Time Trial in the Phoenix Park on Saturday 18th at the Furry Glen (inside the Knockmaroon Gate up the hill from Chapelizod village) meeting at 10 am. This is being run for those who missed the time trial earlier in the year, though it clashes with the Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships at Santry …
Remember, training continues in Belfield on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Finally, congratulations to Eoin McCullough on being selected for the Irish team at the Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic at the end of June.
