This week’s orienteering – November 4-10
Hellfire Wood this Sunday (November 10th) is the attraction this week. Setanta are running a local (i.e. non-league) event, start from 11am to 1 pm. Hellfire Wood overlooks Rathfarnham and Tallaght – a good area to introduce your friends to orienteering, thought parking can be tight as it’s a popular area for walkers and families on a day out. Three courses available – detalis here.
Read a bit more about the area here.
A more challenging event on Saturday is Lagan Valley Orienteers’ event at Tyrella, Co. Down – the sand dune area which was used for two of the JK races at Easter 2011. This is based at a military area so there will be some security precautions – details here. Should be good, though.
Well done to Munster Championships class winners from 3ROC: Aidan McCullough (M12), Caoimhe May (W10), Una May (W40), Aine Ui Shuilleabháin (W60), John McCullough (M55), Vera Murtagh (W75), 2nd placed Cian May (M14) and Colm Moran (M21L), 3rd placed Gerry Cunningham (M45) on Sunday. Full results, routes etc here.
IOA are running a one-day Controllers Course in Newbridge on 16th November, given by the excellent Graham Nilsson from BOF. Thoroughly recommended for anyone who wants to develop their planning and controlling skills. Details here. It’s limited to 15 people but there may be places still available.
The following weekend (Nov 23-24) there’s an Irish Junior Squad training weekend in Co. Wicklow, training at Carraig na Seabhac on Saturday (scene of last year’s very wild and wooly Leinster Championships) and taking in the Ajax league event at Glendoo on the Sunday. This is open to M/W 14’s and maybe older m/W12’s who are keen to improve.
3ROC fitness training on Monday and Thursday evening at Belfield. Free 5 km ParkRun at Marlay at 09.30 on Saturday.
